Robert Carl Matteson–great dad, successful business man, and grill master extraordinaire–passed away peacefully at his home in Evergreen on January 27, 2017, at the age of 63. He was the son of the late Dr. A. Reese Matteson and Ann Dusenbery Matteson. Born in Danville, Illinois, he attended Danville schools and graduated from Drake University in 1976 with a degree in English. After working in Des Moines, he moved to Denver and spent the next 20 years working in the concrete construction business and owning several other related businesses with his long time partners. After retirement from those endeavors, he pursued his love of being behind the wheel by driving a school bus for the Evergreen School District. After five years, “Mr. Bob” officially retired, bought a Jeep and a travel trailer, learned to fly fish, packed up his dog Ike, and spent his summers visiting national parks throughout the West. His was definitely a life well lived. Survivors include his two sons Anthony and Michael of Denver; his brother Richard (Nancy Morrison) of Westhampton, MA; and sister Joan Warrick (Bill) of Indianapolis. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, the Denver Art Museum, or the Evergreen Jazz Festival.
