On a sunny summer day, Donald E. Wilson burst into the world.
He grew up in Denver and had many adventures with his English Setter, Windy, and tearing around the neighborhood on his Schwinn bicycle. He was a good natured kid.
After graduating from East High School in 1964 he attended Colorado School of Mines and graduated in 1958. He was affiliated with Tau Beta Pi Honor Society, Society of Exploration Geophysicists, Honor Roll 5 of 8 semesters, Sigma Alpha Epsilon Social Fraternity, and participated in intermural softball.
Don moved to Texas and worked for Mobil Oil Company from 1958-1962 then decided to make P major life change and attended University of Texas School of law where he graduated in 1965. He was affiliated with Phi Delta Phi Legal Fraternity. He upgraded from a Schwinn to a 1959 Porsche 356B, which he loved deeply.
Don wandered around Europe for a time then returned to Colorado and got a job as Assistant City attorney for Denver City and County from 1967-1999.
After retirement, Don worked for the Denver City Retirement Board and entered private practice. He was well respected by all who knew him. He was granted Donald Earle Wilson Day by the City and County of Denver, which was March 31, 1999. He also served time on the bench as a judge.
One warm summer evening Don went to one of his favorite places, Denver City Park and was stro ling in the Rose Garden, when what to his wondering eyes should appear bu1; a vision of true loveliness named Shirley. They married on June 23, 1967 and remained married until Shirley passed away in September, 2023.
Adding to the family, Don accepted Shirley's three children Ron, Chris and Jeanne. Quite a handful to take on for a formerly single man. His comment at proposal was "I will accept your children because they are good looking and
reasonably intelligent" The family moved to Evergreen, Colorado in 1968 then to Kittredge, Colorado in 1989, where they lived until their passings.
Preceding in death was his father, Luther Earle Wilson, his mother, Malissa Jean Wilson, niece Lori Collings, son James Ronald Gunn and wife, Shirley Joyce Wilson
He is survived by his two children, Jon Christopher Gunn (Jann Gunn, children Christopher Ray, Nikolas Aaron, and Jonathon Earle, and two great grandchildren, Aaron and Claire. His daughter is Jaime Jeanne Meadows, and child Heather Nicholle Pease ( Bryce Pease) and Great- grandchildren, Wyatt and Charlotte.
He is survived by his sister, Carla Ray Collings and her two surviving daughters, Julie and Becky, and their nieces and nephews.
He is survived by many nieces, nephews, and their children.
Don was amazing in that he had a photographic memory and could quote the Bible and Shakespeare right off the cuff. Many people were astonished at his ability to quote the Bible.
He set a path that was admired by many.
