Hendrik Jan de Boer 1944-2025
Hendrik Jan de Boer passed away on January 3, 2025, peacefully at his home in Colorado in the arms of his loving wife, Judy.
Hendrik was born in the city of Kollum, in the province of Friesland, Netherlands. He immigrated to the United States in 1955 and grew up in Holland, Michigan. Hendrik attended Holland Christian High School where he met his wife of 57 years. Throughout his life, he had many careers. He was a barber (The Men’s Room), stockbroker, a baker in the family business (Hempels Pastries), and eventually joined World Impact serving as a missionary. He loved serving others, bringing his love for Jesus, joy and energy wherever he was. He loved animals and farming. From his farm in Michigan bailing hay and raising cattle and horses, to his Colorado home in the mountains with sheep, goats, pigeons, and chickens, these places were heaven to him. A day was not complete without a nap in the sun. Hendrik was active all his life, running many marathons, walking across Kansas, all over Europe, and in his later years walking 8 miles a day with his dog, Bailey, in the Colorado mountains. His Dutch heritage and faith in Jesus permeated all he did in life as he loved his family and those around him. His joy and zest was like no other.
